THE POLICE WORK OF THE MARIA DA PENHA BATTALION OF THE GOIÁS MILITARY POLICE
an analysis from the perspective of David Bayley's theory
Abstract
This article aims to expose the police work carried out by the Maria da Penha Military Police Battalion of the Military Police of Goiás. The research was carried out based on David Bayley's theory of police work, with exploration of the records of occurrences carried out by the unit in the period from January to October 2023, in addition to a bibliographical review on the duties, situations and results of the police activity of the Battalion specialized in assisting women in situations of domestic and family violence. The results suggest a demystification of the view of police activity as being a priority occupation of law enforcement, verifying that police conduct is intended much more for prevention than for repression. The study revealed that the service is in constant improvement since its creation with a focus mainly after the occurrence of domestic violence in order to avoid the cycle of violence, in compliance with court decisions on protection measures for female victims.
