Abstract

Abstract: A relationship of violence with inequality and poverty is a classic theme in the social sciences. Objective: The present study aims to analyze the relationship of the Social Vulnerability Index (IVS) with violence in the ten most violent and least violent municipalities in Brazil. Method: for this, the comparative method between indicators in the two sets of municipalities is used. As a proxy for social vulnerability used or the IVS index, a multivariate indicator calculated by Ipea and as a proxy for violence, as homicide rates calculated per 100 thousand inhabitants according to Nóbrega Jr. (2019). A hypothesis was used as the analysis of the report: the better the social vulnerability indicator, the lower the homicidal violence rates. The means of communication, medians and standard deviation of the indicators were affected, as well as correlated as data matrices of the two sets of our sample. Result: relationships were found between low social vulnerability and low levels of violence and a trend towards greater social vulnerability with an association with more violence. Conclusion: a hypothesis is true, but it must also take into account in the analysis, a performance of public security institutions, that part of the most violent cities presents the rates of drug trafficking and / or militia in their social and social policy.
