Abstract

The high rate of occupational accidents among military police officers necessitates the need for management tools focused on addressing the causes of claims, thus enabling proactive action on the risks of the work environment. Therefore, it is necessary to contextualize accidents within a militarized organization, as well as to identify how hierarchy and discipline influence the handling and investigation of claims. Therefore, the research of quantitative and qualitative approach, through documentary research, sought to identify such peculiarities through the analysis of the legislation governing the Military Police of Alagoas, and, using the General Bulletin, adopted descriptive statistics to quantify occupational accidents and the Corporation's response to claims from 2008 to 2018. The survey results point to an increase in the rate of injured military police officers, especially among lower-ranking military officers, as well as the concentration of injured officers in patrolling activities (end activity). In addition, the disciplinary culture inherent in the military organization responds to occupational accidents in a reactive and punitive manner, either through compensation for the injured or through investigative procedures focused on human error.
