Abstract

The present study aimed to know how the construction of the identity of military police officers during the career was given. If there were transformations in this identity and if the same were perceived by both the military police and their family nucleus. The objective was to identify if the changes affected their family relations and also verified the representation of the social role of the military police and the perspectives of these in relation to the moment of the arrival of the retirement. To achieve the objectives, a non-structured interview questionnaire was used with guided interview technique in visits to the 8th Military Police Battalion and in the homes indicated by the police officers. It became clear that both the family and the police perceive changes in their personality and highlight attention as a predominant factor where the family is directly affected by it. In general they believe they are viewed with respect and as heroes of society, but they do not feel compensated by it. The moment of retirement is expected, but with many uncertainties. The interviewees showed considerable concern in preparing for this moment. The research is of paramount importance, since it will serve for the administration of Human Resources of the Institution, to elaborate motivational projects, of preparation for inactivity and of accompaniment of the military policeman.
